The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position in the field of Construction Engineering and Management. The candidate will also be eligible to apply for a Canada Research Chair at either Tier 1 or Tier 2 depending on academic rank and qualifications: https://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/home-accueil-eng.aspx.

The candidate should have research expertise in modelling, analyzing, and optimizing operations related to construction and other associated industries. Experience in computer simulation; artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and their applications; big data and data analytics; academic industry partnerships; and automation and robotics applications in construction are highly desired.

The successful candidate will be part of the Hole School of Construction Engineering (HSCE): https://www.ualberta.ca/engineering/research/groups/construction-engineering/index.html. The HSCE has helped the construction industry in Alberta improve its project performance and enhance its competitive position by delivering cutting-edge tools and practices to construction owners, contractors, and tradespeople, while providing a unique training opportunity for hundreds of highly qualified personnel. The success and distinctiveness of the HSCE’s research and graduate education programs are a consequence of a development of strong industrial research partnerships focused on advancing research, student education, and overall practice. This collaborative approach has garnered widespread support from numerous funding agencies, policymakers, and industrial practitioners and remains a primary example of the achievements that can arise from effective partnerships with industry. The HSCE is home to 8 faculty members specializing in construction engineering and management, with over $3 million in annual research funding, over 15 industrial partner companies, and hundreds of graduate students.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Construction Engineering, or a closely related field. They would be expected to be a licensed Professional Engineer with eligibility for membership with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA, https://www.apega.ca/) and must obtain this membership within two years from the date of hire. The undergraduate programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering enrol over 900 students.
