{"id":207590,"date":"2021-12-02T21:46:59","date_gmt":"2021-12-03T02:46:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csce.ca\/?p=207590"},"modified":"2021-12-02T21:46:59","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T02:46:59","slug":"faculty-position-dept-of-civil-engineering-queens-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/legacy.csce.ca\/en\/faculty-position-dept-of-civil-engineering-queens-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Faculty Position: Dept. of Civil Engineering Queen&#8217;s University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Tenure-Track Faculty Position<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Department of Civil Engineering<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>The Natural and Built Environment <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Queen\u2019s University at Kingston, Canada<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>December 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Queen&#8217;s University is situated on traditional Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Territory.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/civil.queensu.ca\/\">The Department of Civil Engineering<\/a> <\/strong>in the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.queensu.ca\/\"><strong>Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science<\/strong><\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.queensu.ca\/\"><strong>Queen\u2019s University<\/strong><\/a> invites applications for up to two tenure-track faculty positions in groundwater and drinking water treatment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Queen\u2019s University. The preferred start date of the appointment is July 1, 2022.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Criteria:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe successful candidate(s) must hold a PhD in Civil, Environmental, Chemical or Geological Engineering, or related Geoscience field at the start date of the appointment.<\/p>\n<p>The main criteria for selection are:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0 evidence of high-quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer-assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, active engagement with industry, and the supervision of graduate students. For the groundwater position, we are especially interested in candidates with expertise in physical and\/or contaminant hydrogeology, and who are motivated to apply their expertise to address challenges related to sustainable groundwater management.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; demonstrated aptitude for teaching courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the department\u2019s programs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; provide evidence of their ability to work in an interdisciplinary and student-centered environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; professional engineering licensure in Canada, or the eligibility to obtain licensure, is a requirement. Note that all forms of engineering licensure in Canada are considered acceptable (e.g. P.Eng., temporary engineering license, provisional engineering license, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; relevant industrial experience will be considered an asset.<\/p>\n<p>Research areas may include, but are not limited to: fate and transport of emerging contaminants, impacts of climate change on groundwater resources, fractured rock hydrogeology, surface water-groundwater interaction, cryohydrogeology, and innovative characterization and remediation technologies; and could employ laboratory, field, and\/or numerical techniques. For the drinking water treatment position, we are interested in candidates with expertise in the areas of drinking water treatment (e.g. advanced treatment processes, disinfection, biofiltration, treatment optimization), drinking water quality, and the treatment and removal of emerging contaminants in drinking water.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to enhance the existing excellence in research contributions and training of our highly-collaborative groundwater group and the Drinking Water Quality Research group at Queen\u2019s (@DWQGQueens <a href=\"https:\/\/www.queensu.ca\/contaminants-emerging-concern-network\/projects\/drinking-water-quality-group\"><strong>https:\/\/www.queensu.ca\/contaminants- <\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>emerging-concern-network\/projects\/drinking-water-quality-group<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Our programs incorporate innovative approaches to engineering education, with an emphasis on developing technical and professional skills. The successful candidate will also be expected to make contributions through service to the Department, to the Faculty, to the University, and\/or to the broader community. Current faculty conduct internationally recognized research in the areas of Water Resources and the Environment, Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, and Structural Engineering.The Department actively involves industry partners in both research and teaching (see <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.civil.queensu.ca\">www.civil.queensu.ca<\/a><\/strong> for further details).<\/p>\n<p>Opportunities for collaboration are also enabled by two internationally recognized research centres supported by the department: the Beaty Water Research Centre (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/waterresearchcentre.ca\/\">www.waterresearchcentre.ca<\/a><\/strong>) and the GeoEngineering Centre at Queen\u2019s\u2013RMC (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geoeng.ca\">www.geoeng.ca<\/a><\/strong>) with interdisciplinary expertise in areas that cover physical and chemical research related to water, and how water affects natural and built materials and environments.<\/p>\n<p>Among our top priorities in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science is providing opportunities for early career academics to develop exceptional research and teaching contributions while fostering an inclusive environment where all faculty can thrive. Support for faculty to develop strong research programs includes Special Research Grant opportunities, grant writing workshops and review services, and one-to-one mentorship from experienced<br \/>\ncolleagues.
