Eads, a radical steel arch design with spans over 500 ft (150 m) long. The bridge featured the deepest bridge foundations in the world, constructed using pneumatic caissons, and a steel superstructure, erected using the cantilever method, that drove innovation in the manufacturing and quality control of this new construction material.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1700323739413{padding-top: 20px !important;}”]

The New Trans-Atlantic Cable Webinar Series is a joint initiative of the Panel of Historical Engineering Works of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the History and Heritage Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the National History Committee of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering.

[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”209880″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”209882″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”209888″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row disable_element=”yes”][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”217171″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center” css=”.vc_custom_1703040692429{padding-bottom: 15px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1703040633739{padding-top: 10px !important;}”]Raymond “Paul” Giroux Dist.M.ASCE, NAC – Visiting Professor of Engineering Practice, Lyles School of Civil Engineering, Purdue University

Paul received his BS in Construction Engineering from Iowa State University in 1979 and then worked for Kiewit for 45 years on a wide variety of heavy civil engineering mega-projects.
